Why an hour?

A persuasive essay

by Aidan Steele

Dear Mother,
It hath cometh to mine attention that thou, Linda Steele, believeth that one hour’s worth of time is enough of playing video games in a day. It also hath been noted that this is only on weekends, and that thou limit time to only half of that which is allowed on weekends by thee. I implore you to reconsider and, I daresay, prolong the time allowed to play video games, even if only on weekends. The following paragraph contains reasons of why I believe so for thee to read. I do hope that thou art reasonable, for it would break mine heart if all of this scripture were to be wasted.

These reasons will be speaked in proper ingrish for yor kunveenyins. Furst uv all, I hav sean sum gye hew pleys vidyo geymz ayte owerz a dey, but he gits gud gradez and he iz smarts. Heze in hi skool and is in onerz maff and geyt ingrish and nevr haz any greyds lowr then a B. this prewvz that vidyo geymz arnt bad for yor smarts.

I believe that video gaming time on weekends should be raised to an hour and a half, and maybe even two hours, if you’re feeling generous. All I ask is that you do not sentence me to boredom, and that I have a little bit of extra time to play video games. The video games I play enhance reflex, creativity, memory (which I kind of need), problem solving, and many other skills that will prove to be invaluable to me in the future. Video games do more good than harm, so please consider my proposition. Thank you for reading this.

Orange

We had to write poems in class today, so I wrote this one.

Orange is
friendship that will last a lifetime, standing through hard times like stones, resisting the waves of hardships and coming out untouched.

Orange feels like
the soft fur of a young kitten, purring happily as it dreams of playing with balls of yarn.

Orange tastes like
two tall, cool glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice to drink with your best friend.

Orange sounds like
children laughing as they play together, carefree, happy, and innocent, creating good memories.

Orange smells like
a peaceful meadow’s flowers, blooming beautifully as the morning sun lights them up like little fires.

Orange looks like
the evening sky, glowing pleasantly like dim, romantic candlelight.
